Shouldn't you really be measuring the voltage at the battery (or other operation point)
rather than at the gauge? No, they're not the same, due to voltage drops on the power
wires to the gauge. The more current drawn by a circuit on the line, the greater the
voltage drop. These P.O.L. (point-of-load) voltmeters have separate lines for powering
the gauge and for the point to be measured. With neglibible load on the remote-sense wire,
you get a much more accurate reading of the voltage being measured.
